"It's not if it's going to happen, it's when."
Bryan Brown, supervisor of buildings and grounds for St. Cloud school district, talks about a catastrophic mechanical failure that could shut down Technical High School and leave half of the district's high-schoolers without a building.
The possibility for problems looms in the bowels of the nearly 100-year-old building. Its steam, water and sewer pipes, as well as its electrical systems, are outdated. Some parts are no longer manufactured.
"It's going to happen," Brown said to a group of 20-or-so district residents who toured the school Oct. 11. "The building is in desperate need of help."
